At the draw for the ladies' short program this morning, Japan's Miki Ando pulled the number 30 -- last -- and covered her face with her hands.

"Usually, I like skating last, but this is the Olympics," Ando said. "I am a little bit afraid I will get nervous."

Ando, who won the world title in 2007, doesn't plan to watch rivals and fellow world champions Mao Asada (2008) and Yu-Na Kim (2009) perform their shorts.

"No, I will only be thinking about myself," she said. "I will just be talking with my coach [Nikolai Morozov]."

I hope she doesn't get nervous. After all, it's her second Olympics and she's fully prepared! You can do it, Miki!

The expected coronation of Queen Yu Na in Vancouver ain't gonna happen despite the endless media predictions. I have no doubt both Miki (and Mao) are up to the challenge of dethroning the queen regardless of the draw. I have a warm and fuzzy feeling that Queen YuNa may not even make the podium and wouldn't that shock the skating world? Just wish I could be at Miki's gold medal victory party after the FS. Joannie's mom - R I P.

Miki can get merit from skating last.
She'll have no one coming after her to erase her skating impressions.
Nikolai can build strategy.

Joannie looks so sad during practice.

Someone at Ballerina on Ice said that according to Michelle Elis from Universal Sports, Miki has been fluid and perfect in practice and that her 3+3 is dead on and she is practicing confidently.

Well, Sarah Hughes placed 4th in the SP at the 2002 Olympics and won the overall competition!

Miki came thru for us as we knew she would. She's in good medal position (4th) going into the FS. Mao has her mojo back! Team Japan...I smell victory in the air. Looks like two on the podium...YES!!!

Miki put a lot of soul into her SP, but didn't she look a bit gentle?
Of course it was a marvelous (!) performance let aside that UR, but in the LP I want to see her fury this time!!

ETA:
I watched the video again and I was deeply moved anew by Miki's SP.
Gentle was not the correct word, it was full of love....

Very cool pics & vids = Thanks as always. I second the emotion that we will continue to love Miki no matter what happens in Vancouver. Unconditional love is a beautiful thing. Having said that, I still believe we will see a triumph by both Miki and Mao in the FS that will go down in the great moments of Olympic history. Team Japan: Perfection on ice.
